Off Campus Access
The library uses a proxy service called OpenAthens to allow students and faculty to quickly access library databases and full-text resources when off-campus.
1. On the library website, when you (Juniata College students, faculty, staff, and college affiliates) click on a link to a database or article, a Juniata College Network Authentication screen will appear (see image below).
2. You will need to enter your Juniata Credentials.
Once you enter your credentials, you can access all Juniata College-subscribed materials as long as your browser is active. (If you close your browser, you will need to complete steps 1-2 again to validate yourself as a Juniata College affiliate).
In a few situations, you may not be given the above screen. (Ex. BioOne) In these cases, the user should try the OpenAthens options within that database. Below it is at the end of the link under the Blue Sign On box.
After clicking the OpenAthens link, you should select or type “Juniata College”.
JCVPN allows users to connect to EagleNet resources, such as shared storage drives. While it is no longer necessary for library resources, some users may need to use JCVPN remotely connect for other College services.
If you are off campus, you connect to EagleNet by using JCVPN.
How to Connect using the JCVPN:
1. Visit the JCVPN webpage.
2. Enter your Eaglenet name and password.*
For students this will be the first five letters of your last name, the first letter of your first name, your middle initial and the year you entered the college. Ex. Smithjb14.
Faculty Eaglenet names are, in most cases, the users last name.
3. The first time connecting in this way, you will be asked to download and install a browser plugin.
4. From wherever you saved that (most computers default to "Downloads Folder") run the downloaded installation utility.
7. Refresh the JCVPN webpage.
8. Leaving the tab or window with JCVPN open, you should now be able to access databases.
*If the three or more attempts with your user name and password have not succeeded contact the Technology Help Desk at x3619 (or 814-641-3619).
